Public Skating (Free Skating)
During the public opening hours of the ice rink – free skating – everyone is welcome: young and old, experienced or less experienced skaters, members and non-members of ice clubs, recreational skaters and competitive skaters alike. You don’t need to be or become a member of any club to skate during public hours.
The Ice Rink Haarlem (IJsbaan Haarlem) has two ice surfaces: a 400-meter track and a centre ice floor (also known as the “kids’ rink” or inner track rink). Please refer to the schedule above for the opening hours of these two ice surfaces.
One admission ticket grants access to both rinks during public hours. All types of skates are allowed on both rinks during these hours: (combi) speed skates, clap skates, hockey skates, figure skates, or easy gliders.
Ice Maintenance (Resurfacing) Schedule
The ice on the 400-meter track is maintained every hour, on the hour, during public skating hours. You can find the resurfacing times for the rink in the schedule below.
The ice maintenance for the 30×60-meter rink takes place at various times, not on a fixed schedule.
Each ice maintenance session (resurfacing) during opening hours takes only 5–8 minutes. During resurfacing of the 400-meter track (commonly called “dweilen” [mopping] in Dutch), skaters must come to a complete stop and stand along the boarding (the safety barrier) while the ice machine is on the ice.
Please read the full rink regulations by clicking this link: ice rink regulations and house rules
The schedule below shows the regular resurfacing times for the 400-meter track. Note that due to certain circumstances, such as maintenance on the ice machines or a first aid emergency, resurfacing times may be canceled or shifted.
