Longtrack skating – ice clubs
Learning to skate and training About twenty ice clubs use the IJsbaan Haarlem for long track skating. Most ice clubs provide skating training and lessons at all levels and for different ages from pupil to master. Trainings and lessons are given both during the day and in the evening by experienced skating instructors or trainers. Fun and conviviality are paramount. It is up to you whether you want to work on your skating technique with a fixed group every week, or whether you want to skate a solid number of laps to improve your condition and prepare yourself for the natural ice or the Weissensee. Who knows, we might get a serious period of frost next winter.
Participating in a long track competitions
Long track skating: on Saturday and Sunday evenings long track competitions are held in Haarlem. The skating competitions (long track) in Haarlem are always held on Saturday and Sunday evenings. Normally the competions for the pupils and juniors start early in the evening, and the competion for seniors and masters somewhat later in the evening. Skating marathons are scheduled for Monday evenings.
Member of a club
In order to skate long track competitions or marathons, you must be a member of an ice club and purchase a competition subscription for a training hour. You also need a KNSB (Royal Dutch Skating Association) competition license. The ice clubs will be happy to inform you (from pupil to master) about the possibilities and how you can participate in skating lessons or training on the beautiful 400-meter track of the IJsbaan Haarlem. Don’t hesitate if you can’t skate like a champion yet, skating competitions or marathons is simply fun and challenging. Call or email and ask skating club of your choice to inform you about long track skating. At the bottom of this web page you will find a list of ice clubs or skating training groups that train or teach weekly at the IJsbaan Haarlem with their contact details.

Summer activities
Most ice clubs organize various activities in the summer to stay (or get) fit and to prepare for the skating season. These can consist of running and boot camp-like training (dry training), cycling or inline skating. So you don’t have to wait until the winter season to contact an ice skating club. Everyone is welcome at the ice skating clubs Do you have to be a good skater to join an ice skating club for (competition) skating? No, that is not necessary at all. The ice skating clubs are there to teach you how to skate better and faster.
Longtrack skating is fun and inspiring
Long track skating is for everyone. With the lessons and training sessions of the ice skating clubs, you are fully prepared when there is natural ice in the winter. If you are going to train seriously for competitions, it is important that you protect yourself well with the right protective equipment.
