Children and Youth
There are three options for children and youth to learn to skate.

  • The first option is to take lessons from the ice skate school, Kras Sport, at the ice rink. It is possible to arrange private lessons or to join the regular program of lessons. In the public holidays – Autumn, Christmas and Spring – Kras Sport offers short, intensive courses (3-5 days) for beginners and (more) experienced skaters. More information (in Dutch).
  • The second option is to participate in the youth skating program of the ice and skating clubs on Saturday mornings. These lessons are organised by the skating clubs. Look for “Jeugdschaatsen” on the websites of the ice/skating clubs mentioned on this website. Children (7 – 14 years) are initially not required to join and Ice club to take part in these lessons. The Saturday sessions cost only circa € 110 for a full season (20 lessons). More information (in Dutch).
  • Third option: If you want to (learn) figure skating, you can contact the Figure Skating Club Haarlem. This friendly, large club organizes both skating lessons for beginners and competition training under the guidance of very experienced coaches. More information

Adults
Also for adults there are several the options to learn ice skating.

  • Just like the kids, adults can take lessons from Kras Sport, the ice skate school at the Ice Rink Haarlem. It is possible to arrange private lessons or to join the regular program of lessons. In the public holidays – Autumn, Christmas and Spring – Kras Sport offers intensive courses (3-5 days) for beginners and (more) experienced skaters of all ages. In addition to lesson programs at different levels and for all ages, Kras Sport also offers specific training programs under the name Kras Extra. More information (in Dutch).
  • Another way to learn to skate (better) is to join an ice club and train with a fixed group once or several times a week or take skating lessons. Ice clubs also have groups at different levels: there are groups for beginning, recreational skaters and experienced competitive skaters. If you want to compete (long track, marathon, short track, figure skating), membership of an ice club is even necessary. The ice clubs training at the IJsbaan Haarlem will be happy to inform you about the possibilities. See the links lower on this page.
  • Wanting to learn figure skating? Kunstschaatsvereniging Haarlem (KSV), the figure skating club, has also lessons for adults.
